IPA Renewal is Compulsory
IPA Renewal is an important business practice that is required of all registered businesses in PNG.
IPA requires all businesses to renew their businesses so that they remain valid in compliance with the Business Name Act of the country.
Requirements
The requirements will be determined by a number of factors such as; who has assisted you to initially register your entity with IPA and whether you have updated it during the Re-registration Period (Jan to Nov 2023) or not.
There has been an upgrade of the IPA registration system and all entities have been asked to update (re-register) their entities in 2023. That is for entities that have been registered prior to 2023.
However, if you have not done so, we will assist you to update your entity and that means you will have to pay a penalty fee (Late Updating Fee). This fee is exempted for entities that have been registered after 2023.
The requirements are;
- IPA Renewal Form (online form below);
- Receipt of payment;
- Valid ID;
- Letter of Authority (only for those entities that have been initially registered elsewhere, NOT through PNG SME Directory)
- Form AR-20 (only for those entities that have not been updated during the Re-registration Period as explained above).
The above requirements are explained in detail below;
1. IPA RENEWAL FORM
You can find the IPA Online Renewal Form at the bottom of this page. It is a basic online form which you’ll have to fill in the basic details. We will be able to access every other detail about your entity on the registry.
2. PAYMENT & FEES
The usual Renewal fee depends on two factors; whether you’ve updated your entity during the Re-registration Period (explained above) or not.
- Fees for Updated Entities; K360.
- Fees for Entities NOT updated; K690.

We accept Direct Bank Deposits, Internet Banking or SMS Banking.
You’ll have to send us a copy of the payment receipt. Contact us if you have questions.
3. VALID ID
Remember to send us your valid ID. The the government IDs that are considered ‘valid’ are; NID, passport or driver’s license. If you don’t have any of the three IDs, read these instructions on how to validate your personal ID).
4. LETTER OF AUTHORITY
A Letter of Authority must be written by the owner(s) of the entity and addressed to the IPA Registrar but must be sent to us first.
The letter is required by IPA in order for you, as the owner(s) to grant permission to PNG SME Directory to manage tasks on your behalf. These tasks include; filing renewals, doing amendments, updating entity details, etc.
The letter must be written on your busines’s letterhead and signed by the owner(s).
Write a letter exactly like the above sample but with your details being mentioned.
5. FORM AR-20
Form AR-20 is supposed to be filled by those entities that have not updated their entity details during the Re-registration Period as explained above. This form will assist in the Application for Revocation of Cancellation.
